Cohabitation are also called
consensual union. It refers to unmarried heterosexual couple living
together in an intimte relationship. Cohabition is not as socially
acceptable as marriage, but social expected that cohabiting partners
will eventually become married. Most of the western country young
couples preferred cohabitation before marriage.
The reason why couples cohabitation
before marriage is because they feel that if they can make a success
of their living together, they might be able to consider marriage in
the future. Sharing a life together will easily insight into the
habits and personality of the other person which will be invaluable
in deciding whether he or she is the right person to marriage. Young
couple feel that compare to dating does not guarantee success in
marriage.
Beside this, fear for loneliness also
may drive people to cohabitated with partners. Living together may
mean that partners are always available physically, sexually and
emotionally for each other. It seems an ideal and arrangement for
people who do not wan to be alone and wan to avoid the
responsibilities of marrage.
However the disadvantage of couple
cohabitation before marriage may affect relationships with parents.
Many families considered cohabitation are morally wrong and
embarrassing.
This is also unfair for female because
female who cohabitate are the one who suffer the most loss during
break up of the reliationship. Cohabitation will bring to abortion
too.
In the conclusion, I feel that
cohabitors live in noncommitted relationships that value
independence, marrieds promise to care for each other “in sickness
and in health”. There are many mental and physical health benefits
of knowing there is another person who will take care of you when you
cannot take care of yourself.
